Albums by AoE:

Pink Noise - DSBP - 2013:  What the hell can I say about this beast in just one paragraph?  This was an attempt to get back to our roots.  This was supposed to be a tribute to our first project, Null.  Null was raw, hateful, and destructive.  Null had a feel that I've never been able to fully recapture since.  Pink Noise is closer to that goal than I've been in a decade.  Simplicity was the goal when writing for this album.  The compositions are very basic.  The music was done on cheap synths (mostly digital) like the ones I started with.  (Ion, SH32, AX60, Bass Station, MS2000, etc.)  The MPC1000 didn't have as strong a role as it usually does in our music with percussion being supplied mostly by Electribes.  Guitars were tracked with an Eleven Rack, in spite of the existence of a room full of amps at the time.  The biggest factor in the sound of Pink Noise was a VS2480.  Null was recorded on a VS890, so this seemed like a logical progression.  All recording, mixing, effecting, and mastering was done on this machine.  The lyrics were written in the style of our old song Stagnate, a word-association opera of tyrannical godhood, however a lot of personal material made it's way onto this album.  Artwork was done by Esther Groves.  Vocals on the title track were done by Sindelle of Scream Machine.

Albums by Whore:

Whore - The Pale Blue Dot - DSBP - 2013:  Not really a Whore album in the strictest sense as it strays away from the sonic ethics previously established by the band, but we didn't want to be those guys that release a billion albums under a billion different names just to confuse our fans. More Dez than Jim on the writing and instrumentation. Pretty much a death metal album with samples. Layout we did ourselves based on a sculpture by our friend Laura Muncy. This started as a test of our brand-spanking new Schecter 8-string guitar that we bought (more as a toy than a serious tool) in the context of a personal joke project of ours. Making pornogrind on an 8-string proved difficult and ended up evolving into this monstrosity. Everything was done on the MPC1000. Drums, samples, composition, and arrangement were done there with guitars and bass recorded through a Pod X3 and into the MPC. It was all then recorded and processed in Reaper where vocals were recorded and the tracks were mixed and mastered. HUGE thanks to Tommy T for taking a chance with releasing this one. We promise the next one's going to be a lot more synth-oriented!

Whore - Untitled Album - DSBP - 2010:  Whore's debut album.  This one is more Jim than Dez on the writing as it's pretty much an attack on his personal demons.  Big emphasis on analog synths, though guitars are pretty much the anchor for this album.  Artwork was done by VII of Quartier Macabre (did a lot of artwork for Velvet Acid Christ and art installations.) The logo we had made by Christophe Spazjdel (mostly does artwork for black metal bands like EmperorWolves in the Throne Room, and Moonspell). We got lucky being able to have him work on this. While he does do the logos for (practically) free, he doesn't do them for just anyone and we had to sell him on the idea. Mixing was going to be done by our buds in Revolution State as there were a lot of problems with the mix, but we landed the label deal and got into an (unnecessary) rush to get it released.  Sketched everything out on the Virus TI2 and an MPC1000 before replacing all the synths with analog stuff (Analogue Solutions, Kraftzwerg, Andromeda, Neptune 2), recorded through a pair of StudioLives into Reaper, and mixed on the StudioLives. Mastering by Tommy T of Diverje.

Other Works

The Organism - Mind:  Control - Self-Released - 2016:  (Can be listened to here.)

In my recent foray into the horrifyingly addictive world of modular synthesis, I got addicted to ambient music and drones.  Inspired by a trip to Akasha's Treasures, I thought it might be a great experiment to put together a dark ambient album in forty-eight hours under the premise of making music for meditation.  This album was a blast to make!  All synths come from a Synthesizers.com system and a monstrous Eurorack (want to say it was at 1176hp at the time) and was recorded to the VS2480.  Artwork was purchased at Akasha's Treasures and is titled "The Crow" by AEM.  All sounds, textures, and instrumentation by James Wicked. This album is intended for ritual/relaxation/reflection/reading. Primary frequencies utilized were selected based on their ability to stimulate brain activity. No binaural beats were harmed in the making of this record. Please use responsibly and with proper adult supervision.

Muggle Death Camp - Seven Murders:  The Fractured Soul - Self-Released - 2015:  (Can be listened to here.)

I had been planning a followup to Avada Kedavra since the moment that album was finished.  I never in my life imagined that it would take eight years for it to finally happen, nor did I imagine that instead of going for cinematic black metal, it would have been a primitive black metal sound with heavy doom influences and bizarre eastern European scales!  I fell in love with bands like ProfanaticaThe Royal Arch Blaspheme, and Embalmed.  I loved the rawness, the aggression, and the recording ethic, so I set out to recreate that.  I failed, but I think in a good way.  This was recorded on a Marshall VS100, Alesis DM10, Peavey 260C, VS890, and a host of the crappiest guitars you have ever seen in your life.  The lyrics are a tribute to the Horcruxes.  This was a fun album.  It was cathartic.  Lots of bonus tracks and cover songs, too.  I can't wait to do it again!  There was also a single released with my first stab at DSBM.

The Organism - Drawing Down the Moon - Self-Released - 2009:  (Can be listened to here.)

This was originally made as a joint project between myself and Carly Welch.  I provided the music and she provided the art.  Unfortunately, the project never fully materialized.  In hindsight, this album is unlistenable.  It was supposed to be an ambient album at a time when I didn't fully understand how ambient music worked.  This was a long time ago, but I think it was recorded with a VS890, MPC1000, Ensoniq DP/4, and a slew of analog synths played in live-ish.

Muggle Death Camp - Avada Kedavra EP - Self-Released - 2007:  (Can be listened to here.)

This was created during the whole 'wizrock' explosion.  The idea was to take the wizrock concept and apply it in a different context.  What if instead of folksy music about Harry Potter, we did cinematic black metal about The Dark Lord?  Kind of an irritating part of our past since last time we checked, this has a far bigger following than Whore does.  Music was composed with an ESI-4000 Turbo running pretty much the whole show with guitars, bass and vocals recorded on top in Sonar. Guitars were processed with Guitar Rig.

The Divine Chemical - An Exploration of an Open Wound - Self-Released - 2008:

The last album of TDC/Null.  One of us bottomed out psychologically and ended up in a hospital because of it. The lyrics were written during this stay and the music put together afterward. This ended up being very therapeutic but in hindsight, really shouldn't have ever left the bedroom.  It's self-serving, shallow, and under-produced.  Thankfully, we have the only copy of this thing that ever made it out of the Cafe Press store. Lots of cheap digital synths recorded through Behringer gear.

The Divine Chemical - Comatose Insomniac - Dark Corner Productions - 2006:

After Null got run into the ground, Astroboy and us were on the verge of calling it quits (we'd even talked about it before what would ultimately be our last show). Jim and Dez were going to become permanent members of Sleep Now Yes (Jim had been playing a couple shows with them by this point and attending recording sessions) and Astroboy was going to focus on her career. Sphincter got lost on the way to this show, and after we found out that Jim actually has decent stage presence behind a guitar instead of just a microphone, we figured out that we do well as a trio. Null became TDC and over the course of the next year, an album was recorded. A lot of work was put into it, but it just wasn't that great in the end. In theory, the live shows were going to be killer, but they never happened. The music is mostly Electribes and other cheap synths recorded into an M-Audio 1010.

Dax - The EP - Self-Released - 2005:  (Can be listened to here.)

Unfortunately, Jim's contribution to this band came after this CD was released and before the band's demise. His involvement with this project came right after Null started to become serious, and working with Dax ended up becoming great experience for him and his own music. Jim was brought in to help make Dax a live band after their first CD bad been put together in studios with great professional musicians. As such, Jim spent a lot of time in places like Republic Studios dissecting the material and figuring out how to get it onto a stage and during that process, he and Dax recorded a few songs together.

Null - Filth - Self-Released - 2005:

This is where it all stems from. Null was the first serious musical project that Jim or Dez ever got involved in. It started with a cyber thrash demo Jim made to recruit a vocalist, and the only eager audition coming from a man wanting it to be "more industrial." Three months and many many synths later, a vocal-less demo was ready for the man's voice, but he'd disappeared. One drunken night, Jim did his best distorted Ohgr impersonation, and the formula was put together. Astroboy and Sphincter were roped in for live guitars/bass and we put on a long string of live shows. Facade was the original live keyboardist but after he called it quits the day before a show, Dez was recruited as permanent live keyboardist. This is the album that we've been chasing since it was put together just because in spite of the horrible production quality (recorded and mastered on a VS-890) this is still the most aggressive body of electronic music either of us has ever put together.
